I have conducted research into a number of historical topics such as the industrial revolution, Birmingham, Astronomy, Science etc as well as expertise in genealogical and historical investigation.

Over the years I have carried out research on a number of projects below are some details of  some of the more well known.

Text Box: Lunatick Astronomy

Matthew Boulton is famous for being a great entrepreneur and partner of James Watt. Boulton was the force behind the Lunar Society—a group of friends who met on the Monday closest to the full Moon to discuss science and business matters. My own research was to investigate the astronomical interests of the Lunar Society. Indeed Lunar Society member James Keir had stated that the favourite past times of Boulton were Electricity and Astronomy. Yet we never find details of his astronomy activities in the published literature. By investigating the Boulton and Watt collection at the Birmingham City Archives I found a wealth of information that gave a new insight into Astronomy in 18th century Birmingham. A presentation of the research entitled ‘Lunatick Astronomy’ is available. A book detailing the research was first published in December 2008 and copies of the 3rd edition may be obtained from me directly.
